Custom Domains

A custom domain puts your public pages on your own address instead of a Crafted Call one. There are two separate kinds, and they are set up in different places on different plans:

An organization domain for your gallery's public pages, connected from your organization settings. This needs the Premier plan.
An Artist Site domain for an individual artist's site, connected from that site's settings. This needs a paid Artist Site: Starter connects one domain and Pro connects three.

Crafted Call handles the certificate and the content delivery network for both. Your only job is three DNS records.

Connecting an organization domain

Go to Admin → Settings → Organization and open the Domains section.

Under Connect a custom domain, enter the domain you want to use, such as examplegallery.com, and choose Add domain. Use a subdomain like gallery.example.org if your main website already lives on the root domain.

The domain appears in the Domains table with its Status, its Verification record, and when it was last updated. It stays pending until DNS verification succeeds. Once it validates, Crafted Call issues the certificate and marks the domain ready. Use Check status to re-check after you add each record.

Listing and removing domains is never blocked, so an organization that changes plan can still see and disconnect what it already connected.

Connecting an Artist Site domain

From the site's settings, open Custom Domain and add the domain there. The steps and the records are the same as below.

The three DNS records

Crafted Call shows the exact values, and each one is copyable. Add them at your registrar in this order, because each step only appears once the previous one has succeeded.

1. Prove you own the domain. Add the TXT record shown under Add this TXT record:

2. Let Crafted Call issue the certificate. Once verification succeeds, a second panel appears, Add this CNAME record for SSL, with a Type of CNAME plus a Name and a Value. This is what proves ownership to the certificate authority. If the panel says the certificate is still being requested, wait a few minutes and check again.

3. Point the domain at Crafted Call. When the domain is ready, the last panel, Point your domain at CraftedCall, gives a CNAME or ALIAS record with your host and the target to point it at. Some registrars call an ALIAS record an ANAME; either works.

Check this before you start with a root domain such as yourname.com. GoDaddy, Namecheap and Squarespace Domains cannot make a CNAME or ALIAS record on a root domain, so the last step has no record to add there. With one of them, connect a subdomain such as art.yourname.com instead, or move the domain's DNS to a provider that supports it, such as Cloudflare.

DNS changes usually propagate in five to thirty minutes, occasionally longer. If a step fails, check the record was published rather than only saved, and confirm you copied the value exactly.

After it is live

Visit the domain in a private browser window so you are not seeing a cached lookup. You should get your pages over HTTPS with no certificate warning. The certificate renews on its own.

If a domain is showing an error, the row records the last error and the time it was last updated. That is the first thing to read before changing anything at your registrar.

Changing or removing a domain

Remove the domain from the same panel. Your pages revert to their Crafted Call address, and you can delete the DNS records at your registrar afterwards.

If people have bookmarked or linked the old address, set up a redirect at your registrar or tell them the new one. Crafted Call cannot redirect a domain that no longer points at it.

Email is separate

A custom domain for your pages does not change the address your email is sent from. Sending from your own domain is its own setup, with its own records. See Sending Email From Your Own Domain.

Troubleshooting

Verification keeps failing. Confirm the TXT record is live using a public DNS lookup tool, not just your registrar's panel. Some registrars append your domain to the host field automatically, which produces a doubled hostname.

The certificate step is stuck. The CNAME for SSL has to be exact, including any trailing dot your registrar adds or strips. Re-copy both the name and the value.

The domain resolves to the wrong site. Check that no older A or CNAME record for the same host is still in place. Two records for one host is the usual cause.
