Class Materials & Certificates
Two things turn a booking into a course: the handouts students get during it, and the certificate they get at the end. Both are built into events whose Type is Class or Workshop.
That type setting matters more than anything else here. An event set to any other type shows no materials section, no attendance tracking and no certificates. If you cannot find these tools, check the event's type first.
Sharing materials with students
Each class has a Materials page at Admin → Events → your class → Materials. Owners and admins can use it, and so can anyone assigned to the event as a Teacher or Assistant Teacher, so an instructor does not need broader access to your organization.
To add a file:
- Under Upload Course Materials, give it a Material Title.
- Add a Description if the file needs context, for example what to read before session three.
- Choose a Session, or leave it as All sessions for something that applies to the whole course.
- Choose the File.
- Choose Upload & Notify Students.
PDFs, Word documents, plain text, images and video are accepted.
The button does what it says: every registrant is emailed that new materials are available for the class. Upload deliberately rather than in dribs and drabs, because each upload sends a message.
Everything you have added appears under Uploaded Materials, with how many times each file has been downloaded. That count is a useful signal partway through a course. A handout nobody has opened is usually a handout nobody knows about.
Deleting a material is permanent, and the dialog says so.
What students see
Students find their files in My Classes in their own dashboard, grouped by session with anything unassigned under General Materials. Files they have already opened are marked as downloaded, so they can tell what is new.
Certificates
Certificates are issued per attendee, from the class's attendance table, once you judge that someone has completed the course.
Setting up the wording
Open the class and find Certificates. There are two levels:
- Organization default is used by every class that has no override. Set this one up once.
