Blind jurying hides who made the work so your panel scores the work itself. Crafted Call does this in two layers. Blind review hides the artist's name and contact details. Automatic redaction goes further and finds identifying detail inside the words artists wrote and the documents they attached, so a statement that opens "After my MFA at Yale, my gallery in Portland..." does not undo the anonymity. This guide covers turning both on, checking what jurors will see, and releasing work to the panel.
Turn blind review on
Open Admin → Calls → your call → Edit, go to the Jury tab, and switch on Blind Jury Review. The helper text states the effect: jurors will not see artist names or contact details while scoring submissions.
With blind review on, a juror sees an anonymous label in place of the artist's name and no email address. In discussion threads, other jurors appear under anonymous labels too, and each juror still sees their own name. The same call looks normal to you: names are visible throughout the admin pages, including the Results tab and the Submissions page.
Blind review is on for as long as the switch is on. Turning it off on the call editor restores names for jurors.
Two things change for jurors while blind review is on:
Discussion threads are replaced by a note that discussions are hidden during blind review.
Jurors cannot look an artist up to declare a conflict of interest, because there is no name to search. They are told to contact you, and you record the conflict for them on the Conflicts tab. See Managing Conflict of Interest Declarations.
Turn redaction on
Redaction is off until you ask for it. Open the Jury page and click Redaction review, then use the Redaction settings card:
Enable redaction, set to On for this call.
Release mode, either Require approval so nothing reaches jurors until you approve it, or Auto-release so redacted work goes straight through.
Render style, how a hidden phrase looks to a juror. Category label shows a bracketed word such as [name] or [gallery]. Opaque block shows a solid bar. Paraphrase substitutes a rewritten phrase that keeps the meaning without the identity.
Aggressiveness, Conservative, Balanced or Aggressive.

Block jurors until released, on by default. While it is on and nothing has been released yet, jurors see [Pending redaction review] in place of the text and cannot open the attached documents. The entry itself still appears in their queue.
Redaction covers the artwork title, the artwork description, the artist statement, every custom field on your submission form, and every attached document.
It looks for names, email addresses, phone numbers, postal addresses, links, social handles, schools, galleries, organizations, place names, awards and references to other people. It leaves descriptions of medium, style and theme alone.
Review what jurors will see
Redaction review lists every submission with its status. Filter with All, Awaiting review or Low-confidence only, which surfaces the findings the detector was least sure about. Each row has Review to open it and Rerun to detect again after you change a setting.
Review opens a side-by-side comparison headed Original and Redacted. Every finding is listed with a plain-language summary that never repeats the hidden value, so the review screen does not leak what you are trying to hide.
For each finding you can:
Toggle between Redact and Keep.
Change its Category.
Change its Strength between Hard PII and Soft identity, then click Apply reclassify.
Type Custom replacement text and click Set replacement to control exactly what the juror reads.
Use Add redaction to hide something the detector missed. Type the phrase, choose a category and strength, then click Add redaction.
There is also a Help me fix this panel on text items, where you describe the miss in your own words, for example "you missed the gallery name in paragraph 2", and the findings are adjusted for you. It works only before release and only on text, and it is not switched on for every organization. If you do not see it, use the controls above.
When the submission reads clean, click Release to jurors. The confirmation warns that jurors will see the redacted version immediately and that it cannot be undone. To clear a backlog, Approve all remaining releases everything still pending in one step.
Attached documents
A CV or a statement uploaded as a PDF is handled differently from typed text, because a black box drawn over a PDF usually leaves the original text underneath.
Crafted Call rebuilds the document instead. Each page is turned into an image, the identifying regions are painted out, and a fresh image-only PDF is assembled with the document's own metadata cleared. There is no text layer left to copy out and no author name left in the file properties.
In the review dialog each document has its own panel with View redacted document (PDF), an Extracted text view showing what was read off the page with the findings highlighted, and a Findings list. Documents are toggle-only: you can switch a finding between Redact and Keep, but you cannot reword it.
Only PDFs can be redacted. A file that is not a PDF, or a document the rebuild could not process, is withheld from jurors entirely and says so on the panel. Handle those by hand or ask the artist to resubmit.
Printing labels while jurying runs
You do not have to wait for decisions to test your label template. On Admin → Labels, before anything is accepted, Generate draft labels builds labels from the submissions still awaiting jury review. Every page carries a diagonal DRAFT watermark and the file name ends in DRAFT, so a preview sheet cannot be hung as the real thing. See Printing Labels.
Practical notes
Redact before jurors start, not during. Releasing work mid-round means some jurors saw one version and some another.
Run Rerun after changing Aggressiveness. The setting affects new detection, not findings already recorded.
Check the Low-confidence only filter even when you are in a hurry. That is where a half-recognized gallery name hides.
Blind review and redaction are independent. Redaction without blind review still leaves the artist's name on the entry.
